A Little Bit of Silver

I kid you not... I am 29 years old... and last night I plucked about 15 coarse SILVER hairs from the top of my head. As I placed the tweezers on each strand of hair and yanked I whispered to myself  "No, no, no, no, no, please no....."

I ran downstairs and told Seth about my debacle and he proceeded to tell me that by yanking them out, they'd just grow back coarser and thicker.

Facepalm.

I didn't think getting into my 30's would bother me... but that really, surprisingly!, bothered me yesterday.

*When did you start getting grays? Do you embrace them? Or dye them? Or pluck them?

  1. All of the above. Lol. I got a few in high school (pluck) and continued to get more throughout my 20s (dye) and now (33) I embrace them. Sort of like a rite of passage. Haven't dyed my hair in 5+ years and I love my natural color/highlights and now the greys. Perhaps it's more of liking who I am at the moment.....not sure. I do know that I am the most peaceful and content now than I have ever been. We're not just talking about grey hairs anymore. Lol.

    1. This is me too -- got them early 20s, dyed for a decade or so. It wasn't to cover greys though, I just liked playing with color. By the time I hit 30, I pretty much left my hair alone, with just occasional dye jobs. Now, at 34, I've really come to love and embrace my natural color, greys and all, and just leave it alone :-)

  2. My husband always tells me that every time I get really stressed one of my hairs turns grey. It's probably an old wives' tale...but I'd like to think my grey hairs have more to do with my emotions than my age :) Although, if it really is stress I would have a LOT more grey on my wee head!

I'd say- embrace the grey! You are beautiful no matter what color your hair is :)

  4. I noticed my first grey hair when I was 19.....And ever since then I've noticed more and more of them. I currently dye my hair, but just for fun! My mom let her hair go to her natural color when she was in her 30's and I have to say she looks gorgeous with her grey/silver hair! I am kinda excited to see how my hair decides to grow in those treys!

    1. My mom is the same way and has never colored her hair. It looks great on her! I'm just not ready for it. :)

  5. I'm 28 and have had them for YEARS! I color my hair and it drives me crazy when my roots grow out a little and there are little sliver hair roots peeking at me in the mirror. Totally feel your pain!

  6. I'm still too early for greys (24, and my mom still it's grey at 55), but i think there's nothing more graceful than a woman with silver or white hair who doesn't cover it up. there's a woman at church who has shoulder-length silver hair and it's just lovely. i have never dyed my dark brown hair, and don't plan to when the grey's come- embrace it! Honestly, a younger woman who has gray hair just looks more lovely because it draws attention to her youthful face!

  7. This has totally been something I've been thinking about lately. I'm not going grey yet (my mom was 40 when she spotted her first grey, so I'm thinking that'll be the case for me as I'm 34). Anyway, I told a few people that I wanted to grow out my natural color, and they looked at me like I was an idiot that didn't care about looking decent. I really just want to be more natural and save money. I wonder when natural will come back in - grey or otherwise (ash brown, in my case). It seems like it should be soon. I'm holding out hope (so is my bank account).

    1. I'm ash brown, too, Annie. It's not the most flattering on me... lol... but I totally agree it is SO expensive to keep the dye up. UGH! You are a beauty regardless of what color your hair is. I say GO FOR IT and OWN IT!
