How'd You Meet Your Man?

Last night I was meandering through an old email account and found this gem (yep, that's Seth's first email to me. And, yep, this was his Match Profile ;)

If you're new(er) here... it's true: we met online.

It's not the most romantic story you'll ever hear, and Seth gets embarassed telling people how we met, but the truth is, Match worked for us :)  I was a single mom, Seth was working full-time and going to school, we didn't have time to devote our lives to dating, and so, this was the best option at the time.

Anyway, back to last night... I was able to read the entire conversation we had online.  It was hilarious to read!  I read a few of the emails to Seth and he was busting up laughing too.

I actually love that we met online and I'm not embarrassed at all :)

How'd you meet your man? I'd love to hear!

  1. I backed into my man in a Cafe Rio parking lot. He stepped out of his car and - to my mortification - he was SO handsome!! Then, of course, he was an absolute gentleman about the whole situation. He said not to worry about the little dent I left in his door but I insisted he take my number in case he changed his mind. Then he texted me apologizing at the possibility of ruining my "sushi night." Days later I was still thinking about him and voiced it to my roommate who insisted I text him. I wasn't the type to "make the first move" but went out on a limb knowing that I'd probably never see him again. I sent him a text that thanked him again for being a such a gentleman and about my embarrassment that the guy I hit was so handsome. Yup, I called him handsome over a text and I didn't even know the guy!! But, needless to say, it worked! He took the ball and RAN with it. Didn't take long before I was swept off my feet to happily ever after. :)

  2. My husband and I met in high school, he was a grade behind me, but was in several of my classes. We both were dating other people at the time, so we didn't get together until after I'd graduated. We started texting that fall, while I was still dating my ex boyfriend. He was so sweet to me, my boyfriend was a jerk, eventually I broke up with my ex and hubby and I started dating a while later. He was my hero, his kindness made me realize that I didn't need to be treated the way I had been by my ex. We started dating February 28, 2008, and got married February 27 of 2010.

  4. I'll share ours because it's fun! 25ish years ago, a cute 17 year old worked at Taco Time in Rexburg, ID. She was super close friends with a few of her coworkers, K & C, who got married. Cute girl, K & C all hung out together and then the next year cute girl got married as well. Soon after her wedding, her K & C had a baby boy. 6 months later, cute girl had a baby girl. The two couples joked that someday, maybe their cute babies would grow up and get married.

    That cute girl was my Momma. Not long after I was born, my parents moved to Utah and basically lost touch with their friends. 16 years later, we moved back to our tiny town and I got a job at Taco Time. Turns out my Momma's close friend, K, never stopped working at Taco Time - he was now the general manager. His son was working for him and not long after we met, he awkwardly asked me to the movies. After that, we were inseparable. That was the beginning of our senior year. We went to different high schools but we dated the rest of that year. Despite his parents desperate struggle to keep us apart, Aug 1 (just 10 days after I turned 18!) of the year we graduated, he asked me to marry him. Not six months after graduating high school we tied the knot and at just 18 we were facing the world together. Over 4 years and two perfect babies since then and more in love than ever! We even had a Taco shaped cake at our wedding, because of our fun family history there. I love our funny story!

  5. Please sit down because this is so romantic is will knock you off your feet: I inherited a snake named Reggie. Reggie needed food and the closest pet shop was Fins Feathers & Fur in Murray, Utah. I went to buy a pinkie mouse to feed Reggie and the cute pet shop boy, Todd, helped me. Each week I went in we had more conversation until his last day at work. He gave me his number and I said that I didn't call boys and he asked for mine. He called that night and we went the the dollar movie and saw Little Women. Now, how many people can say a reptile brought them together? 18 years later...we're still together, minus Reggie.

  6. aw. the lucky thing about meeting online, i suppose, is that you can actually go back to those first conversations. that's pretty sweet. :)
    i met my husband in kind of a funny way... short version: one night while i was down in the dumps after a particularly traumatizing break-up, a friend, in trying to cheer me up, told me, "don't worry about it. i know who you're going to marry. his name is barclay krause and he's absolutely perfect for you." it was a guy she'd met ages ago who she hadn't kept in touch with and who lived in another city. she described him to me and i decided he was perfect but what were the chances i'd ever meet him in real life?

    half a year later, i moved to live with a friend from high school; she took me with her to church and the very first guy i met there, the very first time i went, was...that guy. when he told me his name i almost fell over. i knew so much about him from that conversation with my friend so many months ago, i felt like the biggest creep ever. we started dating pretty much right away and...here we are. haha. :)

    {i didn't tell him the backstory until we got engaged because i thought it might freak him out.}

    1. Seriously, Suzy? That is CRAZY! It reminds me of the movie "Only You" when she is told she will marry Damien Bradley and she spent her life searching for him-- except it was a joke a friend pulled on her :-/ That is seriously such an awesome story! Thank you so much for sharing!
